Friday Fragments: 500 Posts!

This marks my 500th post. Keep reading to find out about a special opportunity I'm giving you, my readers, to celebrate this dubious achievement.

***

I am on my last day of wearing my glasses after my week-long adventure with pink eye. When working out, I would generally take off my glasses. I am so blind that I couldn't read the numbers on the treadmill. To add to the madness, I wore my ipod.

Thus, I was blind, basically deaf to outside noises, and sweating profusely.

I imagine that this is what it feels like to be Mickey Rourke.

I attempted to take a yoga class, and to keep my glasses from falling down with each Downward-Facing-Dog, I donned this bandana. Prepare yourself: Serious Dorkage Below.

I am so street. And yes, I am flashing West Side, yo. Because, apparently, it's still 1994.
(I hope Tupac and Biggie work it all out.)

***
Speaking of yoga-type stuff, Owen was rubbing his face. He said, "My third eye is really blurry today."

I've heard my yoga teacher talk about the third eye, so I've decided my son is very in-tune spiritually. Or perhaps he has three eyes. It has been awhile since he's had a bath.

***
Joel is a Vacation Bible School drop out. He went for one day, and the best part of the entire morning for him was when his brother and his friend fought over him like a rag doll:

I liberated Joel from the world of crafts and songs, and took him to his favorite place: the steps by the Italian restaurant.

He was much happier.

***

This is all it takes to make me happy.

***
I am so grateful for blogging. I get to express myself. I'm privileged to read your stories. I have met wonderful people. I've grown.

I want to thank you. I've created a contest, of sorts.

Leave a comment---you can ask me a question, tell me something you've enjoyed reading, or just say something nice.

Also, please tell me a charity that is close to your heart. (Please, no political parties or highly controversial charities).

I will use Random Number Generator to select the winner. That person's selected charity will receive a donation from yours truly.

I will pay a dollar per comment. So, fifty comments=fifty dollars to the selected charity. No duplicate comments, please.

Let's make this a good check! Tweet it, send your friends, and thank you, thank you for your support.

This runs through Tuesday, July 20th.

Thanks, as well, as always to Mrs. 4444 for hosting Friday Fragments.

I love those sunflowers! They're my happy flower :)

My favorite charity is the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation's "Great Strides" walk. (Hope you have the same thing in the US) My niece Kherrington was CF positive, which lead to her birth complications.

If my number gets chosen, I would love a donation in her memory <3

You're amazing Nancy, keep up 500 more sincerely hilarious posts.

What a sweet idea! Congrats on your 500th post (and for freeing your child from camp hee hee)

My fave charity is the Children's Wish.

Love the sunflowers, love your gangsta look, love the VBS drop out!!

I'm so glad I found your blog or you found mine or however it worked out. I'm glad I know you!

I thought for a few minutes about my favorite charity... UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief)... Susan G. Komen (breast cancer)... multiple AIDS organzations... domestic violence groups...

But what's near and dear to my heart is my local food pantry. My local food pantry is the Fishers United Methodist Church Come to Me Food Pantry. IF I happen to be selected as the winner of this fantastic contest, I'd really just want you to take the money, go buy canned and non-perishable food items, and donate them to a local food pantry in your area.

Off to Tweet!

Congrats on your 500th post and I am amazed (in a very good way) by your giveaway! Wish I had thought of that! I love that you are real and your kids are real and you don't try to sugar coat any of it! But this is still a happy blog! :)

My favorite charity? Hmmm there are so many but I'm going to go with China Call. It's a mission organization with which my son has gone to China twice.

I have two charities that are close to my heart. You can check out nf.org to learn more about neurofibromatosis and how to donate money for NF research.

The other charity that is close to my heart is Shriners Hospital. They provide free services and are phenomenal in their level of treatment and care.

I think I need to start counting my post..I know I am no where near 500 so congrats on that achievement! I love blogging and feel I have read so many amazing stories and have so many to tell!
Your little man made me smile..what a cutie (I'm glad you saved him)! I have so many charities but one very close to my heart is S.O.S which stands for survivors of suicide. My husband lost his 17 year old son to suicide and he works very hard to help others through this organization.

I love the dork pic with the signage. You are so badass.

Congrats on 500 posts!! And Thank You for sharing with us bloggers all those cute pics of your boys.

Absolutely favorite line I have read today: "My third eye is really blurry today." Made me giggle! Love it.

Mama-Face said...

wow. 500. That is so street. You rock.

Tupac and Biggie-hahahaha.

The charity close to my heart would be the Lance Armstrong Cancer-don't know its official name-charity.

I love your gangsta look, girl! My charity of choice would have to be Donate Life America at http://www.donatelife.net/. It's a coalition of charities in support of organ and tissue transplantation. My mom died last summer waiting for a liver transplant. It took an Act of Congress to get her on the list only to find out she was too weak for the surgery!

Congratulations on your 500th post, Nancy!

You know, if you look in the mirror and say "Biggie Smalls" three times, he'll appear and bust a cap in yo' ass?

Charity: your local food bank or Feeding America (formerly known as America's Second Harvest), the national umbrella organization for food banks.

People usually think of food banks, pantries, and kitchens as serving the homeless and unemployed, but most food bank/pantry food goes to people who have homes and jobs, but have to choose between paying rent/utilities and buying food. Those decisions are terrible for anyone, but especially for children and seniors.

Lisa and I volunteer monthly at the Greater Chicago Food Depository, the food bank for all of Cook County, Illinois. It's in a giant warehouse near Midway Airport. Usually we repack food from the manufacturer's giant pallets into family- or individual-sized servings for distribution. I'm told that every Saturday's output of repacked food leaves the warehouse within seven days.

500 posts, what an accomplishment!!! Charity Wise - Canadian Cancer society, if Canada qualifies. If not, US is fine.
Lost my Dad to cancer 1.5 years ago. Still feel the loss, tremendously.

This is a milestone week for so many bloggers. Congrats on your 500th post.

Your yoga experience with the glasses sliding down made me think of a yoga post I did a while back. http://4thfrog.blogspot.com/2010/02/namaste.html

Very cool way to celebrate your milestone. I would choose The Children's Heart Foundation. They send medical professionals to poor countries where they donate their services to operate on kids with severe heart conditions. Their upcoming trip to Iraq has been canceled because the funder sponsoring it withdrew funding when he found out Kurdish children would also benefit. So sad. Check it out at http://babyheartblog.org/

Oh how I love your blog -- street cred and all!

Congrats on 500. Looking forward to many, many more. I think that you know my favorite charity because you have already helped me support them. But I am glad to be a part of any great charity getting some love.

As to a question, I am going to keep thinking and I'll be back!

Charity - Alzheimer's Association

Bill Lisleman said...

After I read that last comment of mine I'm afraid some might take in the wrong way.
The charity I requested has nothing to do with the first part of the comment. Alzheimer's and other dementia is a terrible disease that I unfortunately have witnessed in the family. Sorry if I confused anyone.

Hi Nancy!

Long time since I've seen you around, I know! Sorry to hear about Joel's recent injury.

My charity would, without a doubt be Make-A-Wish...for they help children with bigger injuries and create memories that are priceless.

Muliebrity Smith mentioned this post on a forum/community we're both on, so I came over to read your post. I love the sunflowers!
My pick for a charity is the Lupus Foundation of America. (lupus.org)

Wearing a bandana to prevent glasses from falling off during yoga... genius! I'm going to remember that next time.

I "vote" Habitat for Humanity. I volunteered for them a lot in college. It's a great organization (as are the other ones I'm seeing).

In the event that today is Tuesday, or before Tuesday, as I never truly know the date...my favorite charity would have to be the SPCA, or really, any pet charity.
