These Words

Yesterday, I recieved this text message from my husband:

"Leaving Suitland Now."

Wait. Sorry. That's not the one I was looking for.

I meant this one: "Nice blog today. You're such a good writer. Don't ever stop."

I tell you, I floated all afternoon. Little puffy clouds of consonants and verbs, his words.

***
My friend sent me a text the other day. It said,  "One month after being told she needed a hysterectomy...my sister is PREGNANT!!!!"

Right there, in the middle of the Baltimore Train Museum, I cried happy tears. These words were a electronic current of hope, and having found its connection, there is now light.

***
A friend texted, "Is it bad when your kids are in the backseat pretending to drink beer out of their sippy cups?"

And just like that, I'm not alone.

***
I texted my brother, telling him that Dune was the stupidest movie ever.  I said, "Presently, they are milking a cat."

He replied, "Well of course. How else can Thufur Hawat become a Harkonnen?"

These words were a time machine. We were once again in our living room, resplendent in our nerdy self-confidence. Just like that, I was home.

***
People argue that we are becoming less connected because of technology. I disagree.

These words are electronic gifts. I celebrate, laugh, commiserate, and love---one text at a time.

So tell me...got any good texts lately?

I'm such an ass I don't text but my friend Billy does occasionally send me pictures. And the last one he sent me was one of his son sitting at mama's breast and the accompanying message was, "I love nuzzles!"
Does that count?

I am connected to my sweetest of friends via technology. I can't imagine how I could go a day without the sweet texts that get me through my day.

The best text I received a couple of days ago was from my 11yr old. He was sitting at his computer. Playing a game. I was writing, with the tv on, earphones on iPod on...in a groove. My phone vibrated. I looked to find...
"Hey Mom, I love you. Just thought you should know."

Sweet, sweet boy!

No really good texts to share at the moment, but my kids were "making me food" out back the other day and they served me a drink, when I asked what is it? My lovely daughter replied, "Your favorite! Beer!" Enough said!

Nothing as good as any of these I don't think. Kids pretend they are drinking beer out of their sippy cups? I will be marking this in the *things to be excited for when I'm a parent* column.

LOL I love texts. What did we ever do without them?

Without the internet I would have never found the wonderful support group of strangers (family has to support you, right?) who give me their love and support and sometimes, it means the world to hear it from someone who doesn't have to love you.

I text all the time. I love it and I am thankful for it. I wish my husband would say something nice about my blog. I don' think he even pays attention to it. :(

Thank goodness for technology!!! I keep a close relationship with my family thanks to FB.

My favorite text this week has been from the hubs: "When I come home, be ready! We're gonna rock that bed!"

Lisa: "I am getting conflicting information from Shark Week."

An important conversation starter regarding the only week of television we both enjoy.

The only people who text me are my babysitters. As boring as it sounds.

I LOVE getting texts. They are very connective, I think. :) How else would I get to talk to a bff who lives in a different state at any time I want?

I don't text much but I agree with you that in this modern world where so many of us are so far removed from family and old dear friends that modern communication allows us to keep in touch that little bit more easily. I love skype, facebook and email for those exact reasons. Some wonderful text messages you have had this past week, all worth keeping and savoring I agree.

My sis and I send silly txts during the day. Usually highlighting a stupid kid-related something.

I loved this! I don't send/receive texts very often - mostly because I'm so bad at it and it takes me forever to type "the." But when I do, they're lovey-dovey-just-between-me-and-Hubby kind of texts. And that's all I'm going to say about that!

Texting has been the best form of communication with my ex-husband. My very favorite text from him was when we were first divorcing... my co-workers were helping me come up with clever responses to his immature texts... until his final text for the day came through: "CUNT" We laughed so hard. I'm not sure why, because it's such a horrible word. But when it comes through as a text from your ex-husband, it's really funny.

Well....actually umm yeah. Its a silly text though. Just warning ya: Me to my hubby: I just sneezed so hard my boobs hurt.

Yeah, most of our texts are like that.

Lovely ode to texting.

I once accidentally texted Simeon's mom a text I meant to send to Leo. It was about Simeon saying "stop it, b....!" to a car horn honking near us. That didn't go over well. Surprise.

I'm also always losing my case and forgetting to lock my key pad. I pocket forwarded a text to my brother that was full of anger and frustration about Simeon. Of course, out of context it sounded really, really bad. I had a lot of 'splaining to do that time.

I also love texting, though it keeps me in trouble. And now we have a no text and drive law. Whatever. I'm a rule breaker.

I love technology, I connect with many more people that way and far more often.
I sent my husband this text yesterday while he was at work: "I'm at the library. So shhhh!"
I crack myself up!

Greatest texts ever. And I love that your husband texts you about your blogs. That is the sweetest thing. I don't text hardly at all because my phone is jank. But one day, when I get a real phone with a keyboard, I might just crawl out from under this rock and join the 21st century...
