Bad Egg

Curse you, egg bake.

For years, we've made an egg casserole for Christmas morning breakfast. It's nothing special---eggs, cheese, sausage, bread, milk, and just a dash of cardiac arrest.

I made it this year, as always, and we all ate honking slabs of it after we opened our presents.

Then, about an hour later, my stomach twisted, and I gave the toilet a present she wouldn't soon forget. (Of course our toilet is a girl--only a girl would put up with so much shit.)

"Too much coffee," I though to myself, and moved on with my day.

This morning, I woke up with a headache. "A little coffee should help with this," I thought.

Coffee--the cause and solution to all my problems.

Later on, after a morning including Owen wetting the bed, requiring the full strip-down, and Joel's screeching demands of "CRAC-KER! CRAC-KER!" (I really need to remind that boy that we live south of the Mason-Dixon line...)  I sent the boys outside to cluck at Jimmy's chickens and decided that I should have something besides coffee for breakfast.

Cue leftover egg bake.

God, I'm dumb. I'll spare you the details this time.

I officially declare this to be the Egg Bake from Hades. Next Christmas, I'll have Paul make a nice spinach and mushroom frittata.

In other news, I'm evaluating this blog and would appreciate your feedback:

1) I'm thinking of posting less often--like three-five times a week. I've made it a goal in the past to post daily. Is less more?

2) What do you think of the format/design? I will not pay anybody to change it up, because we get to spend all our discretionary funds on a new oxygen sensor for the Subaru, instead. Harrumph. Anyway, do you have suggestions about what I could do regarding the pictures, colors, etc?

3) What about the name? I've changed it a whole bunch of times, and consistency is good. However, I don't want people to think I'm that Maya Rudolph movie, either.

You may notice I've...
*Removed my last name, in the event that it matters someday.
*Acquired a button, thanks to Unknown Mami.
*Changed my status picture to this arty shot my brother took several years ago:

I don't look too much different, but in the spirit of full disclosure, it is over ten years old. To be totally fair, this is what I look like most of the time:

Thanks for your suggestions!

The eggs, man that is funny that you would repeat your egg bake situation = P

I say you post when you feel like it. When something strikes your fancy. I know I love reading what you have to say.

You can find free backdrops on different sites and there are some totally new and features that you can do on your own. Do NOT pay anyone to change anything. The pink, hmm ... my vote would be to get a color that features your boys too. Ok, my vote is biased because those blue rimmed glasses. Those are by far the COOLEST glasses i have ever seen on a kid.

I like the name Away We Go and I just associate it with your blog. That black and white shot is pretty cool but it makes you look so "deep in thought." I like the fact that your funny. That's just my thoughts.

Nancy C. I am a fan regardless= )

I noticed that you are doing some changes. I noticed the name and the profile picture.

I know a number of people who change their backgrounds monthly, I guess there are some free templates out there. If you are looking for a change, check them out.

Can't comment on the name. But find one you like and stick with it.

I like daily posts, though, I only started reading your blog.

I really like the design, but the pink is pretty bright...maybe make it a slightly less bright shade? But if It's slightly less bright, would I like it as much?? Hummm

Away We Go sounds fine to me. Just leave it be. I like it.

"Only a girl would put up with so much shit." That. Is. Classic.

I thought "The Mothership" was a pretty awesome name, but if you go back to using it I can't then steal it and claim it as my own.

I too have made some changes to my blog (yes, actually posting to it is one) and plan to do more. I actually purchased the domain name www.muliebritysmith.com and, as soon as I figure out how, will be transfering my blog to my own domain. One of the reasons I "changed" my name was for privacy reasons and because there are some crazy Beckys/Beccas/Rebeccas out here in blog land and I don't like the idea of being associated, even indirectly, with the stigma that comes with the name.

As for posting everyday, that's your call. I think it helps to do so when/if you are trying to establish a following. Maybe take weekends off or blog more in winter and have "Summer Hours" when you can actually leave the confines of your home?

I adore your blog (whether everyday or not). I also look forward to any changes you make--have fun with it and play!
I recently did the same thing. I changed mine to not give away my last name and i decided to use nicknames for the kiddos.
If you need any help, ask away. I also wrote in the code (html) to add a third column to my existing blog.
BTW, great button! man, did i learn alot making one of those!
I'll be coming back...so don't worry about scaring me away!
Also--the toilet being a girl is the best line i've heard all year!! KUDOS!

With nothing but absolutely love and teasing, I submit that your artsy picture should have the caption, "Do you ever get that not-so-fresh feeling?"

Love the picture below it, awesome. I veto less often posting :0)

You can dress things up a little bit with a free background. You wouldn't even have to change the template. There are cute ones at thecutestblogontheblock.com

Sorry about the eggs. Not laughing at your misery, but I am.

I'm partial to Away we Go! Just has such a great feel to it! Lots of energy and enthusiasm.

I love those glasses too, but you could always rotate the pictures.

btemplates.com has lots of great free templates - why don't you give them a look?

And I say posting less is fine. If 3 days is what you can commit to, do that. If you can do more, stick in a couple extra posts. But definitely don't be bound to a blogging schedule that's too demanding for you to still live life.

Recent reader to your bloggy so I don't have a historical perspective or anything. I love Away We Go. Tho it does sound like you have had some other awesome and fabulous names in the past. I think you should post whenever you want. You are funny as hell and I will read anything you write as often as it graces the internets. Your artsy photo is rockin. Your blog is classic and I plan to stalk you regardless of the details.

Will you ghost write my blog on your days off? I'll pay you. In coffee.

1) Post when it strikes you. I would maybe set a goal of 3-5 times a week and not worry too much if you're over or under now and again.

2) I read in a reader and visit the site to comment. I like that you change your header picture- it's always fun to see pics of the boys.

3) I like the name as it is, but if you change it maybe put a poll up and go off that so you feel confident and stick with it.

oh poor you with the egg bake. Ugh.
the other thing sounds better anyway, the spinach thing, f word.
plus husband makes it, double good.

thanks for all the funnies in ths post.

hm, please don't change the name, it would confuse me, plus it's one of my fave blog names.

I love your pics, both of them, you're super cute.

blog seems good, format and such.
and i think you should just blog as much as you feel like it. but not if that means a lot less!

adrienzgirl said...

I love your blog. If you decide to make changes, I'm sure they will be fine. Blog when you feel like blogging. Every day, every other, whatever. You don't have to force it!

Traci said...

Oh, so sorry for your sick tummy. I have had that down this way, as well. I love that the toilet is female, however -- real truth there.

As to your blog, I love, Love, LOVE the name. And remember Maya Rudolph got the VERY cute John Krasinski in the film so that has to be something good, right? I think post when you want to. I try to post everyday but life happens and I have stopped beating myself up about it.

Finally, you have NOT aged in ten years so you can use that photo, girl! So whatever you call it, whatever color you make it, I am following you, Nancy C!

Happy 2010.

I love the changes you've made to your blog. The header is adorable!

I think you can freely mess with the design and colors as long as it's not very difficult to read, your fans will read your blog regardless of the background. I like the black and white photo of you, and I don't think you look any different. But I also think you look cute in any photo and your eyebrows look great :)
Although I love The Mothership, I wouldn't change your current name for consistency's sake. I personally wouldn't worry about sharing the title with the movie. While I liked the film, I don't think it will make it into the canon, but of course I could be wrong. As for the frequency of your posting, do it as often as you feel the urge :) Unless your goal is to establish a large following, in which case I can see frequency and consistency being pivotal. But I don't know jack :)

There are tons of free templates out there. In addition that who design for a living often offer new designs are giveaways. Enter those. I won a makeover for my parenting blog.

As for blogging, I try to post one new recipe a day on my recipe blog. On my parenting blog, I try for every other day.

Bad eggs, bad bad!
Post however often works for you. It's YOUR blog. :) I've started doing daily and so far, it's worked.
Google "free blogger templates." You'll find more there than your brain can handle and it will explode. ;)
If you change the name, find something random enough that if you ever decide to buy the domain, it'll be available. If it would make a great rock band name, it works. "Egg Bake from Hades" comes to mind. LOL!

1. I would nevah, evah post a picture of what I look like most days.

2. I'm probably going to a M/W/F posting schedule. It gives me a day in between posts to catch up (HA!) on blog reading.

3. I love the new pic.

4. I think your blog title is a good one. It's short enough to be easy for people to type and catchy enough to remember. Also, I don't know of any other blogs with that name.

5. I know nothing about design. But there are several sites that have free design elements. Google it. (Cutest Little Blog on the Block might be one???)

I like the name of your blog.

I love your new blog button.

I like that you change your header picture often.

Here is a link for some really great looking, free templates:

Post less. I used to post everyday, but I find that posting less works better for me and my family.
